The Viewing Platforms on Makapu'u Head
Makapuu Looking west from the upper lookout platform toward the lower platforms (foreground), the site of the lighthouse keepers dwellings (middle), and the summit of Makapu'u Head (647').

On the summit and just to the left are two abandoned military "pillboxes" which had been used for fire control during World War II. However, no artillery was ever fired from the island toward hostile targets during the war, aside from defending Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
